Made numerous trading voyages to S. Aus. and Mauritius often taking his wife; owner of "Vixen" 1840s. Bought "Arpenteur" in Dec. 1847 which was wrecked on South Coast Nov. 1849; William appointed schoolmaster 1849 and his wife schoolmistress. 1850 Director of Geraldine Mining Co. With family to SA by "Emma Sherratt" 12.3.1850. Engaged in trade until 1864 when they conducted a school at Nth. Adelaide. By 1870 wife was a boarding house keeper.
