Port plans from Stirling to O'Connor

By Prof Reg Appleyard

Development of Fremantle and Western Australia was hampered by the treacherous long jetty off Bathers Beach. The need for a safe harbour was recognised early in the life of the colony but it was not until C. Y. O'Connor designed his harbor in the mouth of the Swan River that the dream became a reality. Prof Appleyard will explore the history of this vexed issue and its successful outcome.
