Happy Valentine’s, Buffaloes and Buffalettes!
The Buffalo Club has thundered into 2025 like a stampede in full fury —January was a whirlwind of joyful chaos, impromptu gigs, and heroic renovations. With the holiday haze finally lifting, our members dusted off their instruments, microphones, and tool belts to keep the club alive and kicking. And what a roaring success it was—much to the delight of our members and creditors!
This months Old Buffalo Order factoid:
The traditions of the old order are largely satirical, based around the ritual of putting friends on mock trial. While playful, members were deadpan in their delivery of verdict, and we've taken to hosting committee meetings with the same air. Buzzing electric candles, a podium made of matchsticks, elaborate written warrants, cudgels, swords, and songbooks. May we all find our own matchstcik kingdon, our playful ways to address a serious world.
A Round of Applause for Our Volunteers
A mighty bellow of appreciation goes out to:
- Jake, for wrestling the new fridge into place like a true champion.
- Nidas, for helping with the new stage.
- Veronica and Zoe, for their tireless efforts in cleaning and organising.
- Robbie Lang, for donating this beast of a fridge we got up the stairs.
- And a very special salute to our staff and vollies for keeping it together on the 25th of January—one of the rowdiest nights the Club has seen in decades.
Roll Up Your Sleeves – Busy Bee Incoming
And if you’d like to leave your mark on the Club (preferably in the form of elbow grease rather than graffiti), join us for our Busy Bee on Sunday, 16th February at 11 AM. There’s painting to be done, treasures to be shelved, and our subterranean wonderland (a.k.a. the basement) needs a final polish after its recent de-moistening. Many hands make light work—so come on down!
To the esteemed members out there who have been hoarding random bits and bobs over the years, Maybe it's time to find a home for some of it?
The Club needs:
- Metal stools for the upper balcony.
- New pool cue racks for the two tables.
- A bunch of solvent for removing paint from the old terrazzo, stylised concrete floors/walls.
- Tools, Timber, Lamps and Furnishings. As ever.
New Members – Your Cards Await
If you’ve recently joined the herd, your gleaming, mint-green membership card is waiting for you behind the bar. Swing by and claim your badge of honour!
A bit more history...
The Fremantle District Ladies Darts Association—a spirited offshoot of its less elegantly named counterpart—was a force to be reckoned with from the 1980s into the early 2000s. Among its fiercest competitors were three mighty teams from the Buffalo Club: Buffalo Gold, Buffalo Green, and Buffalo Pink. These champions left their mark on the league, claiming divisional titles in 1981, 1984, 1986, 1988, 1992, 1995, and 2002—a legacy built on skill, strategy, and the unwavering camaraderie of the herd. But history has a way of repeating itself, doesn’t it?
Committee
The Fremantle Buffalo Club is growing stronger by the day—more members, more events, and more programs filling the halls. Every band we book, every beer we pour, puts us one step further from the looming shadow of the Australian Taxation Office.
The social life of the Club is blossoming. If you’d like to organise a gathering—especially during the quieter daytime hours—reach out to gigs@freobuffclub.org or post in the WhatsApp group. Our dedicated volunteers are standing by, ready to help bring your vision to life.
From the Floodwaters, a New Stage Rises
Ah, the great deluge of December 2024—what a time it was! The club came close to disaster, not from a mighty storm, but from the humble, ever-present danger of a forgotten tap in the upstairs toilet. But like Noah and his ark, we rose above the waters—stage and all.
Thanks to the success of our Postdiluvian Buffs fundraiser, which raised essential funds for the rebuild, the stage is now back—bigger and better than ever. This monumental task was made possible by our incredible member volunteers and staff, who worked tirelessly in the heat and the chaos, their labour helping to bring the new stage to life.
The new stage now boasts a larger footprint, providing room for more music, more dancing, and all-round good times. There’s also a secure room for bands and artists to stash their gear. And let’s not forget the beautiful antique jarrah floorboards—gone is the old carpet, replaced with smooth, gorgeous timber that’s perfect for dancing the night away.
So, let’s raise a glass to the Postdiluvian Era—a time when a forgotten tap couldn’t drown our spirits or our music. Here’s to the new stage, to our hardworking herd, and to many more unforgettable nights ahead.
Pink Ladies+ Darts Club
Sharpen your arrows and steady your hands—the legendary Pink Ladies Darts Club has returned to the Fremantle Buffalo Club.
Once one of our most dominant and celebrated teams, the Pink Ladies ruled the oche with precision, power, and possibly a pint or two. Now, after a long hibernation, they’re back and ready to let the darts fly once again.
🎯 When? Every Sunday at 3 PM
🎯 Where? The Ladies Lounge at the Club
🎯 Who’s invited? All ladies, femmes, and non-binary buffaloes who want to get in on the action.
Whether you're a seasoned sharpshooter or can barely hit the board (we won’t name names… yet), all skill levels are welcome. It’s social darts, so expect good vibes and a bit of friendly competition.
So, if you’ve ever wanted to channel your inner darting queen, now’s your chance.
We'll see you at the oche!
Long live the Pink Ladies.
