15 June. William Henry Walter enlisted as a private in the 28th Battalion AIF. After the war, he served as the last Mayor of North Fremantle 1951-1961, and worked with the Fremantle Harbour Trust. In 1962, Walter and his wife were presented with the Keys to the City of Fremantle. Walter Place in North Fremantle is named in his honour.
