Richard Joseph Shanahan was a railway employee from South Australia who arrived in Fremantle in the early 1890s.[1] His parents were Margaret (née McDonaldand) and Richard.
He married Catherine (née O'Keefe), and they had five children (two girls and three boys; all born in Fremantle):
- 1898: Maggie Shanahan (died 1957)
- 1901: John Martin Shanahan
- 1903: Richard Thomas Shanahan
- 1909: Annie Kathleen Shanahan
- 1911: Thomas James Shanahan
In 1900 he had a duplex house built at 11-13 Alma Street, and he and Catherine lived there with their children until they sold it to Frank Biddles in 1903 or '04.
Richard died in 1961 in Fremantle, aged 88.[2]
