Matthew Moss
Matthew Moss was the first Mayor of East Fremantle, 1897-1900. After losing his seat in parliament, Moss, a lawyer, stood in the elections for the new East Fremantle Municipality, and was elected the inaugural mayor of East Fremantle. He held that position until May 1900, when he defeated Daniel Congdon (the first mayor of North Fremantle) to become one of the three MLCs for West Province.
The house he called Wanaka was built for him near the corner of East and Beach Sts.
