Solomon Levey
Solomon Levey (1794-1833), like Peter Lautour, was an absentee investor in the Swan River Colony. He was transported for theft to NSW in 1813 and pardoned in 1815. He then became a successful merchant, banker, and model citizen. He met Thomas Peel and became his partner in the Swan River project. The venture was an enormous failure, Levey getting no land and losing much money. After his death his son benefited from what was left, as did the University of Sydney.
