Ingle Knight as Writer and Performer
The Getaway Bus
2000-
The Getaway Bus started life as a short play with a three-year season. Three times nominated for the Gold Swan Award for both acting and writing, winner of the 1999 Premier's Book Prize for theatre in Western Australia, Ingle Knight was commissioned by the WA Ministry of Culture to write a show unique to Perth. This is it.
Hot summer nights, Mundaring Weir, love, death, and parochialism; and the most important issue facing all of us who live so far away from ... well, everywhere else!
Forget the blow-ins; this one's about us. An extraordinary story that could only happen here. Because, sometimes, what happens here does matter.
The Getaway Bus, written for the 2001 Perth International Arts Festival was described by The Australian newspaper as having "a particular genius". It toured to the Edinburgh Festival and toured nationwide in 2003 with 'Playing Australia'.
