Coral Browne 1935

Paragraph and photo in The Australian Woman's Mirror, 9 July 1935. I didn't rip it off like that: that's how it came to me.

Text:
"Proscenium". Coral Brown of Kew (Vic.), pictured on this page, after only a year in London has been given the leading part in "Desirable Residence" at the Embassy Theatre. She succceded Nora Swinburne in the lead in "Lovers' Leap” (opposite Owen Nares), and then scored with Paul Robeson in "Basilik." Her performance in "Mated” introduced her to London audiences. Miss Brown, who is only 22, began in Melbourne on the amateur stage. She won several elocution contests and in 1929 gained the under-18 championship at a South-street contest, Ballarat. Then followed experience in repertory, and finally she became a pro. She had a part in "Children in Uniform" and at only 20 was the very sophisticated wife of the Spanish Minister in "Command to Love".
