George Compton

George Spencer Compton (1833-1888) was Clerk of Court at Fremantle from 1874 until his death in 1888. He was also a noted musician, conducting concerts in Perth and Fremantle. His daughter Kate, b. 1862, married (1879) Leonard [[../people/clifton.html|Clifton]] (aka Charles Leonard Worsley Clifton b. 1854, son of Charles Hippuff Clifton). The family of G.S. Compton first lived at WillowBank Cottage in [[../streets/cantonment.html|Cantonment Street]], then at [[../westend/cliff.html|Cliff Street]], ending up at [[../westend/henry.html|Henry Street]].

George's son Edward married Agnes Mitchell who was the daughter of Isa Izon, eldest daughter of [[../people/bickley.html|Wallace Bickley]].

George's brother Charles Henry Compton (1829-1883) was in Perth in the 1870s, when he was organist and choirmaster at St George's Cathedral. He went to SA in 1878, returning 1881, when he directed performances of HMS Pinafore.
