Octavius Burt

Octavius Burt was the eigth son of Sir Archibald Burt, the first Chief Justice in the colony, as were Alfred and Septimus, the seventh son.

The Late Mr. Octavius Burt. On April 1 there passed peacefully away, at his late residence, one of the oldest and highly respected citizens of this State in the person of the late Mr. Octavius Burt. Born in St. Kitts West Indies, the deceased had spent the best part of 79 years in this State. His endeavours to improve the Christian and social welfare of the community were many, but they were anonymous. Much has been written about the deceased and little more can be added, except to say 'Vale Octavius."

His remains were removed from his late residence to the chapel of Messrs. C. H. Smith and Company. 281 Newcastle-street. Perth. and then were removed to St. George's Cathedral. where an impressive service was conducted by the Rev. W. E. Jones, assisted by Archdeacon Hudiesto Canon W. Patrick (who read the lesson), and the Dean of Perth. the Very Rev. Dean Moore (who delivered an impressive address on the life of the deceased) and the blessing was Pronounced by the Primate (Dr. H. P. Le Parn). At the graveside there was a large and representative attendance.

The funeral arrangements were in the hands of Messrs. C. H. Smith and Co.

York & Asst. Col. Sec: 1890 Acting Col. Sec. MLC & Exec. Council & Under Secr. for the State. 1898-9 Agent General in London. 1901 Sheriff & Comptroller of Prisons & Chief Electoral Officer until retirement 1912: 1903 awarded Companion of Imperial Service Order. C/ E member of Synod Diocesan Council & Cathedral Chapter. Volunteer with Imperial Army in W.A. Wife to Eastern Australia & returned 1880. Educ. Bishop's College Perth.
