Federal Government

The Federation of six Australian states called the Commonwealth of Australia came into effect 1 January 1901.
[[../people/solomon.html|Elias Solomon]] (1839-1909) was the first Member for Fremantle in the Australian House of Representatives.
The current member for Fremantle is Josh Wilson (Labor), who was first elected in 2016. On 9 May 2018 he resigned due to his perceived ineligibility under section 44 of the Constitution, regarding dual nationality. (He happened to be born in England, though his parents, Tony and Penny, are both Australian. He had dual citizenship, but renounced the British one.) There was a by-election in 2018, and he was returned, and so is again the member for Fremantle in the House of Representatives. Wilson was formerly a Fremantle Councillor and Deputy Mayor, and has BA and MA degrees, though no profession. His parents were followers of Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh and took sannyasin names.

Senators represent the state, not electorates internal to it.
