John Middleton Ferres was born on 28 August 1842[1] in Fremantle,[2] the son of Robert and Elizabeth Ferres. He married Caroline Mary Regner in Kadina, South Australia, on 16 October 1867. He and his family returned to WA in September 1879 on Spinaway.
He was granted 150 acres in the Cockburn district, and also farmed at White Gum Valley (where Ferres Street is probably named in his honour). He was also a butcher, and lived in Stevens Street.
He died in 1904.[3]
Sometime between 1829 and 1837 his father may have owned original town lots numbers 284/285, 285½, and 372.[4]
