James "Jim" Coen (1855–1911) was a bricklayer, and secretary of Trades Hall.
His obituary in the Westralian Worker, 23 June 1911:[1] He lived in Grey Street in South Fremantle. He died in 1911 aged 56.

Unionists throughout the State will regret to learn that on Wednesday evening, 14th inst., their old comrade James Coen, secretary of the Fremantle Trades Hall, passed away. He had been confined to his bed during the last month with a serious attack of pneumonia. Lately he showed signs of improvement, and, contrary to expectations, he took a turn for the worse and gradually sank. His end was painless and peaceful, and, surrounded by the members of his family, he departed on his last long journey. On Thursday afternoon hia remains were interred in the Roman Catholic portion of the local cemetery. The deceased was held in high esteem by a wide circle of friends, and the funeral was attended by a very large number of representatives of the labor unions in the metropolitan district. The cortege left his late residence, Grey-street, South Fremantle, at 3 p.m. The chief mourners were Mrs. Coen ( widow), G. T. and J. A. Coen (sons), Mrs. W. Hay and the Misses S. and E. Coen (daughters), and Mr. W. Day (son-in-law), Senator Need- ham, H. E. Bolton, M.L.A., W. C. Ang- win, M.L.A., P. O'Loghlen, M.L.A., J. B Croll (president Fremantle Trades Hall Association), A. E. Pady (acting- secretary Fremantle Trades Hall), T. Thompson and D. Cameron acted as pall-bearers. Among others at the graveside were Messrs. W. Somerville (workers representative on the Arbitration Court), A. McCallum (sec- retary Metropolitan Council A.L.F.), P. Hunt (general secretary W.A.G.R.), W. Moore (W.A.G.R., Fremantle), W. Chambers (secretary Carpenters' Union), J. Fabre, W. Keating (Tramway Employees Union), P. McMahon, F. Rows (secretary Fremantle Lumpers' Union), and W. H. Carpenter (secretary Fremantle Traders' Association). Many beautiful wreaths and floral tributes were placed on the grave. The Rev. Father McCallion, O.M.I., conducted the burial service, and the funeral arrangements were carried out by Messrs. Arthur E. Davies and Co. The deceased was 56 years of age.
