F.C. Somes founded the Somes Newsagency in 1903 in High Street, near the corner of Pakenham Street. He was born in Port Melbourne on 2 June 1874.[2]

He married Caroline Sabina Oliver on 4 November 1897 in Melbourne. He was aged 23. Soon afterwards they moved to Fremantle, where in 1903 he opened Somes Newsagency.

He died on 4 October 1935, in Claremont.[3]
