Duke Street used to run through to Canning Highway at the northern end, until the Stirling Highway Southern Extension was built. Now it terminates at St Peters Road (named after St Peter's Church of England, the church that used to be on the corner of Duke and Canning).
The most notable buildings on Duke Street are near its intersection with George Street: the Royal George Hotel, and the Brush Factory.
