The Coal Lumpers' Strike was in early 1899. It was about pay and regularity of work, and lasted five weeks.

Coolgardie Pioneer, 11 March 1899:[1]

THE LUMPERS' STRIKE WOLLOWRA DISCHARGING. A DISTURBANCE FEARED. POLICE IN READINESS. PERTH, March 7, 12.6 p.m.

In connection with the maritime dispute at Fremantle, the Wollowra is discharging coal at the main jetty. A row of policemen are guarding the entrance to the jetty, where about 1,000 men are congregated watching the proceedings with interest, but making no disturbance. Twenty-five mounted troopers and water police are in the yard waiting emergencies, as it is feared that a disturbance will take place shortly.
