Convict-Built Walls on Fothergill Street
This is a section of the wall above what is now Fremantle Oval – still serving as the wall thereof. The wire fence on the left is the boundary of a staff car park. The wall in the photo continues for some distance south (left) into the carpark and then the hospital grounds, and I didn't go in there to see where it terminates (maybe next time).
This is most northerly section of the wall, extending to Fairbairn Street in the distance.
This wall in Fothergill Street is not part of the Prison wall as such (that is behind it). It would have been the southern boundary of The Terrace, the area on which the houses (for the superintendent and other staff) outside the Prison walls to the west were built.
