About John Dowson
John Dowson lives in Fremantle, Western Australia, in the former headquarters of the Adelaide Steamship Company, a building he won an award for restoring. He has been a teacher of English and History all his life, in Australia, the USA, England, and France.
John was elected Deputy Mayor of the City of Fremantle in 2005 and again in 2007.
In recent years he has published several award winning books. He has focused on photographic history, and has published several books on Fremantle (Old Fremantle, Old Fremantle Childhood, and Fremantle: The Immigration Story) and Albany (Old Albany), Western Australia.
John believes that in this fast-paced highly coloured visual world, we can learn a lot from the carefully-crafted, still, and contemplative images of the past.
Aussiana Books is his imprint.
